New edition of iconic WAYS OF DRAWING available soon
The Royal Drawing School in London is excited to offer a new softback edition of its bestselling book WAYS OF DRAWING: ARTISTS’ PERSPECTIVES AND PRACTICES - a lavishly illustrated collection of reflections and creative propositions by contemporary artists and teachers associated with the school.
'Drawing is one of the simplest and yet most endlessly complex of human activities. It’s a primary language. Every artist does it as a way of visual thinking and feeling, to explore both their interior and exterior worlds. Our publication gathers together a wide spectrum of approaches to drawing at the school, exploring them as a way of thinking, seeing and understanding. It’s highly inspirational!’- says Catherine Goodman, an artist and founder of Royal Drawing School.
The book is divided into three sections - exploring creating within four walls of a studio space, venturing out into the landscapes around and focusing on artist’s emotions. Each of them features essays and short ‘in practice’ pieces with personal accounts of development.
It’s generously illustrated with over 300 drawings and prints by significant artists as well as the school’s most talented students. WAYS OF DRAWING is an invaluable companion for artists of all levels seeking new inspirations for their practice.
‘Excellent! This book is the most engaging, informative and affirming I have read on the making of drawing. It offers you a range of reflections and suggestions, it explores the process, it eventually inspires and encourages you to start creating.’ Royal Academy Magazine
Softback edition of WAYS OF DRAWING will be published by Thames & Hudson on 15 April 2023, in RRP of £25. Available at the Royal Drawing School, most major book retailers, museums, galleries, art shops and Amazon.
